The Wonderful Game Of Golf

 Golf is a stimulating challenge combined with getting out in the fresh air in pleasant surroundings. A round of golf is not only enjoyable, it is an excellent way of exercising. An average 18 holes usually involves walking between six and seven kilometers.

 Since Tiger Woods arrvied on the golf scene, golf is no longer just a sport for business executives and retired folks. Tiger has single-handedly revolutionized golf. Children and teens now view golf like any other competitive professional sport. Tiger is viewed by children of "all ages" as a true athlete. As each day passes, more children have become aware of and interested in the wonderful game of golf.

  The American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) is dedicated to the growth of young men and women who aspire to earn college golf scholarships through competitive junior golf. The majority of golf industry leaders consider the AJGA to be the premiere junior golf organization . Support from organizations like Titleist, who is AJGA's national sponsor and others  such as Rolex and the United States Golf Association easily demonstrate the AJGA's position in the wolrd of junior golf.

 The idea of the AJGA was formulated by a sportswriter in Georgia. Mike Bentley first formed the DeKalb Junior Golf Association in 1974 that evolved into the Atlanta Junior Golf Association. The lack of a central organzation for junior golf tournaments in the 1970's caused Bentley to take action and create the American Junior Golf Association to meet the national needs.

 The AJGA conducted its first national junior golf event in 1978, the AJGA Tournament of Champions, at Inverrary Country Club in Fla. The AJGA named its first Junior All-Americans in 1978, and has done so every year since. The AJGA's first permanent home was built in 1983 at Horseshoe Bend Country Club.
